Supporting artisans and traditional communities across Brazil.
Mindful harvesting, at the right time, without harming nature.
Golden grass is a rare everlasting flower that grows only in Jalapão, in Tocantins. Follow its journey — from the field to the hands that turn it into a jewel.
Step 1 of 5: Born in the heart of Jalapão
In the Cerrado of Tocantins, among wetlands and fierce sun, grows the everlasting flower Syngonanthus nitens — which the Mumbuca community, in Mateiros, calls gold.
Harvesting is only allowed once the seeds have ripened, within a short window. It's the rule that keeps the field alive — and honours the Cerrado.
No chemistry. As it dries in the sun, the grass reveals the living gold that gives it its name. The colour is a gift from the plant itself.
Thread by thread, the stalks are sewn with buriti fibre — a quilombola heritage technique, passed down through generations in the hands of Mateiros.
By law, it only leaves the region as a finished piece — never the raw material. Every Moikato carries a Geographical Indication and a living story from Brazil.

Every piece is born in the quilombola communities of Mumbuca, in Mateiros — where the craft of sewing golden grass with buriti fibre is passed down through generations.
Moikato brings this work closer to you, honouring the origin of its materials and the hands that turn them into art.
